What drink did Ryan Gosling make in Crazy stupid love?
Sources suggest that the drink Ryan Gosling’s character Jacob makes in the film, Crazy, Stupid, Love (released on July 29, 2011), is an Old Fashioned.
An Old Fashioned is made from 2 oz. bourbon or rye whiskey, 1 teaspoon simple syrup or 1 sugar cube, and 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters. If using a sugar cube, mash it in the bottom of an Old Fashioned glass with the bitters and 1 teaspoon of water. Add the ice, then the whiskey, and stir. Garnish with an orange wheel and a cherry.
The Old Fashioned is generally thought to be one of the original mixed drinks dating back to the 1800s.
Some lament that it is nearly impossible to get a good Old Fashioned at a bar in this day and age. Writer Marshall Fawley complained that when ordering one at most restaurants he receives "a fruit mashup of booze, fruit, ice and who-knows-what-else."
Of interest, Gosling starred in Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn's (Drive) thriller Only God Forgives, a Bangkok noir about a boxing club owner that sets out to avenge the death of his brother. He was unable to attend the premiere at the 66th international film festival, in Cannes, southern France because he is currently filming his directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster in Detroit.
Gosling was just spotted at Detroit's 14th annual Movement music festival to watch Richie Hawtin's headlining set. He is said to have filmed the performance and the crowd as they left the Hart Plaza festival grounds .
