The lyrics "And I say hey...hey...I said hey, what's goin' on" are from the 1993 hit "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes. The tune from their 1992 album Bigger, Better, Faster, More! was the band's only major hit single, topping the US charts at #14 and the UK charts at #1.
The band formed in San Francisco in 1989. They had scheduled their first rehearsal on October 17, 1989 at 6pm, but at 5:04pm San Francisco was struck by the Loma Prieta earthquake (also known as the "World Series earthquake", as it happened during warm-up practice for the third game of the 1989 World Series between Oakland and San Francisco).
4 Non Blondes broke up in late 1994, after which lead singer Linda Perry went on to a solo career, as well as having had a relatively successful career writing and producing songs on hit albums by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, Kelly Osbourne, and Courtney Love.
