Petri Hawkins-Byrd started working as a bailiff in the Brooklyn court system before moving to the Family Court in Manhattan. He began working for Judge Judith Sheindlin while serving as a bailiff in Manhattan.
He wrote her a letter of congratulations after hearing that Judge Sheindlin was going to have her own court show. Sheindlin then called him and invited him to work as her bailiff on the show.
Of interest, "Judge Judy" Sheindlin, has extended her contract for three years and plans to keep her court in session into 2020.
