Western Union offers a variety of methods for sending money across the country with fees ranging from $1.99 to $17.00.
If you wish to send money via the internet: which the receiving party can "pick up in minutes," several days, or have deposited directly into their bank account, the fee is $1.99; if you want it sent with a greeting card through First Class mail, the fee goes up to $5.00.
If you wish to send money in person at an agent location, which can be "picked up in minutes," the next day, or deposited in their bank account, the fee is also $5.00.
Finally, if you wish to make the transfer over the telephone the fee is $17.00.
Western Union has just inked a deal with Interswitch Transnational to introduce an account-based money transfer service into Nigeria. This will allow people in the Nigerian market to use the Quickteller website or the internet banking platforms to receive transfers made through Western Union.
