did we invade Iraq or Afghanistan first after september 11th?

Afghanistan was invaded first, which was on October 7, 2001. It was just brief and lasted for just two months.

The third phase, a turn to classic counterinsurgency doctrine, began in 2008 and accelerated with U.S. Pres. Barack Obama’s 2009 decision to temporarily increase the U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan.

Iraq invasion happened from March 19, 2003 until May 1, 2003.
