Hiromi Kobayashi was a synchronized swimmer in the 2008 Bejing Olympics.
During her team's performance, Kobayashi fainted in the water and had to be carried out of the water by teammates.
Her team stated she had fainted and hyperventilated due to extreme stress. The press officer for the Japanese team said “That kind of thing has happened to her before. She is a very nervous athlete,” and went on to say that she was OK, and not in any serious condition; she did not receive treatment in a hospital.
It was the swimmer's first Olympics; she was 23 years old at the time.
