Not Medical Advice: Did you mean gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is a contagious disease transmitted though having sex with an infected person. It is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in mucus membranes of the body.

Gonorrhea can infect both men and women. Babies can also be infected if their mothers are infected. In babies, gonorrhea most commonly affects the eyes.

Gonorrhea is asymptomatic. When symptoms do occur, they are often within two to 10 days after exposure, but they can take up to 30 days to develop. Abstaining from sex, using a condom and being in a mutually monogamous relationship are the best ways to prevent gonorrhea.
