He turned pro in 1998, and with his victory at Wimbledon in 2003 he became the first Swiss man to win a Grand Slam singles title. Ranked No. 1 in the world from 2004 into 2008, and again in parts of 2009, 2010 and 2012, the graceful star has won a record-setting 18 Grand Slam singles championships.
Roger Federer said he was as surprised to win his 18th grand slam title at the Australian Open as when he clinched his first at Wimbledon in 2003.
And now the Swiss is targeting the All England Club for major triumph number 19 after he defeated his old rival, Rafael Nadal, in five thrilling sets in Melbourne.
