Angeline Kerber made headlines in 2016 when she beat Serena Williams to win her first Australian Open title. She ended the year at number one, and was named top seed for the Australian Open.
In that same year she also won the US Open and becomes the WTA World No. 1 as the second German woman after Steffi Graf. However, she lost to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon finals.
