Like most animals, giraffes just lie down and die. They have been thought to bury themselves but that is not true. This myth seems to have been perpetuated with the movie Madagascar Escape 2 Africa.
According to the movie, if any giraffe gets sick, they go into a hole and wait for death.
How long do giraffe live? As stated at GiraffeConservation.org, it is not known how long giraffe live in the wild as there is no recorded evidence. They believe that both male (bulls) and female (cows) giraffe can live to about 25 years in the wild and even longer in captivity.
However, even the world’s tallest animal has enemies. Giraffe mortality rates vary from region to region dependent on density of natural predators. Even adult male giraffe are predated by lions, while sub-adults and calves are particularly vulnerable and can also be taken by hyena, leopard, wild dog and crocodile.
