What we found is that a soft and stretchy fabric made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex (also known as lycra or elastane), has an estimated shrinkage of 6-8% in length and 2-4% in width.
As per American Latex Allergy Association, LYCRA® is DuPont's brand of elastane, or spandex. The word "spandex" is used only in the United States, while "elastane" is recognized worldwide, so we tend to use the more widely known term.
It is important to treat a spandex, LYCRA® or elastane garment properly to allow it to retain its elastic qualities as long as possible. The care is quite easy and the garments will last a long time as long as you follow all the "nevers".
