Was Billy Roy Fox convicted of murdering his son Cameron in 2001?
Billy Fox was not convicted of murdering his girlfriend’s son, Cameron Herring. Fox accepted a plea deal in which he plead “no contest” and was sentenced to 10 years of probation. After 10 years, the “no contest” plea will be expunged from his record.
Fox and Cassie Herring began living together shortly after Cassie gave birth to Cameron. On October 11, 2001 Fox claims his son James tripped over his shoelaces and fell on 7-month-old Cameron. The infant struck the tile floor with his head. Two days later he died.
Fox and medical experts attribute Cameron’s death to complications from the head injury. Prosecutors charged Fox with murdering the child, suspecting he had become violent with the infant and caused the death. Unsure of putting his fate in the hands of a jury he accepted a plea deal before the trial began on April 17, 2003.
