Why was Dave from Storage Wars appointed for 30 days of community service?

Dave Hester had to serve community service after being convicted of a DUI in 2005.

He worked at a local Goodwill Store to cover his community service, which helped spark the idea for his thrift store.

In late October of 2011 the Costa Mesa store's signs were vandalized. The store's red and white sign had "davehesterfraud.com" written across it in black letters, and the sign announcing the move to Orange was covered up with a sign urging people not to patronize the store.
