Why do shoes make poor debaters?

Shoes make poor debaters because they're easily suede! The sound of the shoe material called suede sounds a lot like the word "swayed," and a good debater isn't easily swayed! Another punny answer could be: Because when they're properly laced up, their tongues are tied. It's pretty hard to debate if you find your tongue is tied, and so would a shoe ... if a shoe could debate.
