“Spooky” was released originally as an instrumental (1967), performed by songwriter Mike Shapiro, under the name Mike Sharpe.
Later that year, the tune received lyrics from James Cobb, the guitarist of the band Classics IV, and its producer Buddy Buie. This new rendition reached number 3 on the Pop charts early in 1968.
"Spooky" became the first of four Top 20 hits for Dennis Yost and Classics IV. Some members of the group later became Atlanta Rhythm Section and rerecorded the song hitting number 17 in 1979.
The Classics IV and Atlanta Rhythm Section are favorites of classic hits radio stations around Halooween. See Spooky lyrics, shared by Genius.com.
