Actor Jim Nabors, born James Thurston Nabors, 82, is currently living in Hawaii where he recently underwent open heart surgery.

Nabors famously played gas station attendant Gomer Pyle in the The Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968). Andy Griffith discovered him at a night club in Santa Monica, California and gave him his break by inviting him to appear on the show.

Nabors is just one of many stars paying tribute to Andy Griffith who died at the age of 86 on July 3, 2012 from a heart attack on Roanoke Island in Dare County, North Carolina. He had this to say about Griffith, “I was saddened this morning to learn of the passing of my good friend Andy Griffith.” “He was a legend. My thoughts and prayers are with Andy’s family.”
