When was the first day pi day celebrated

March 14th is 3/14. The mathematical value pi is 3.14…. From this coincidence, March 14th is known as Pi Day. This tradition began in 1987, on March 14th of course. Larry Shaw was the man that decided we should label this mid-March day as Pi Day. It is no coincidence that Shaw’s profession was that of physicist, a profession that uses mathematics constantly. Pi has never been fully discovered in that it has never been found to have any terminating or repeating digits. A more detailed value of pi is 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693. This is how many diameters it takes to wrap around the outside of a circle. In other words: Pi is circumference divided by diameter.
