The movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), is based on the series of books of the same name by Suzanne Collins. During the annual Hunger Games each district must send 2 tributes, a boy and a girl, to fight to the death in an arena as punishment for their rebellion against the Capitol.
The Hunger Games was released in theaters on March 23, 2012. It earned $155 million in the first weekend. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second installment, is due to be released in theaters on November 22, 2013. Along with Lawrence and Hutcherson Catching Fire will star Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee.
