That description fits the 2011 movie Limitless starring Bradley Cooper as Eddie Morra, an out of work writer whose life is in shambles until he takes the pill NZT to help him use the power of his entire brain.
Shia LeBouf was originally cast as Eddie, however, he dropped out after severely injuring his hand in a car accident when someone ran a red light. He had to have reconstructive surgery using his hip bone, to fix the fingers damaged when his car rolled onto them.
The PG-13 movie was released on March 18, 2011, and had an estimated opening weekend take of almost $19,000,000.
