What type of oil do use for a 400 yamaha big bear?
Yamaha offers two oil-change kits for their line of ATVs such as the Big Bear 400. The kits include either 10W40 AP or 5W30 AP Yamalube. 10W40 is supplied for a standard oil change, 5W30 for the cold weather kit. AP stands for All Purpose. Yamalube is Yamaha’s brand of lubricant.
For special situations, Yamalube comes in other viscosities:
“15W50 Full Synthetic with Ester” is a premium high-performance option,
“5W40 Semi-Synthetic for Utility” is designed for ATVs and Side-by-Sides that are especially used for climbing and low-speed hauling duties,
“10W50 Semi-Synthetic for Sport (JASO MA)” is for use in sport and competition applications,
“20W50 All Purpose Performance (JASO MA)” is intended for engines that are in daily use.
“JASO MA” is the highest four-stroke motor oil rating from the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization.
The 2008-2011 Big Bear 400 requires 2.9 liters of oil for an oil-only change and 3.0 liters for an oil-and-filter change.
