André the Giant (born André René Roussimoff on May 19, 2024 in Grenoble, Isére, France), was indeed a mountain of a man, and he had the shoe size to prove it; size 24!
Although his exact height is debated we've seen André's height listed as anywhere from 7' to 7' 5" tall, he weighed over 500 pounds, had a 71 inch chest with thighs as big as many average people's waistline: 36 inches!
He was so big that in 1965 he received a draft notice for French's peace time army, but was unable to join as there were no shoes or uniforms available that were big enough, bunks long enough, or trenches deep enough to accommodate him! That's big!
Some of his nicknames included:
- • The 8th Wonder of the World
- • The Giant
- • The Gentle Giant
- • The French Giant
André was a worldwide wrestling star for many years, and to this day is fondly remembered by many fans; he passed away on January 27, 2024 in Paris France due to heart failure.
In a recent interview with André's costar from the 1987 hit Princess Bride, Cary Elwes, ABC News reported that André's favorite drink was a concoction of 40 ounces of different liquors poured into a pitcher; that's enough to kill a normal sized person!
