What planet does the movie aliens take place in

In the 1986 film Aliens, the plot revolves around a planet called LV-426.

This is the same planet around which the plot for the original 1979 movie Alien revolved.

In the 1979 movie the crew of a mining ship visits the planet to investigate what they believe to be an SOS call, but find out that it was actually a warning beacon to keep everyone away from the planet.

In the sequel Ellen Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver, born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949 in New York City), the main character, is found in stasis and revived 57 years later only to find that a mining colony has been established on the planet.

After all communications with the colony are lost she and a team of space marines go to investigate.

33 years after the release of Alien, and after a 30 year break from Science Fiction, Ridley Scott has returned to Sci-Fi with his latest film Prometheus which opened in theaters on June 8, 2012.
