What is the name of the mystic tree that is at the center of the norse universe?
(973 Chars) In the mythology of the Norse, the Yggdrasil ("The Terrible One's Horse") is the name of the World Tree, as it it also sometimes called. It is a giant ash tree which links all the worlds, and shelters them.
Under its roots lay the realms of Jotunheim, Asgard, and Niflheim. The Well of Wisdom, the Well of Fate, and the Hvergelmir ("Roaring Kettle") lie at its base.
Within its branches are the four winds, represented by four deer running through its branches.
There are several other names used for the tree: Ask Yggdrasil, Hoddmimir's Wood, Odin's Horse, and Laerad.
Yggdrasil is also the name of a Swedish Metal band. They'll be one of more than 1,000 musicians giving over 300 concerts in 9 days in Rochester, MN. In 2011 some 182,000 people attended the concert series.
