There is actually no Hellgate prison in New Mexico, it was a fake place created for the movie of the same name (Hellgate, released in the U.S. in 1952). The film starred Sterling Hayden, Joan Leslie & Ward Bond. The film wasn't even shot in NM, it was all shot in California. An unrelated horror movie called Hellgate was released in 1990 starring Ron Palillo, & Abigail Wolcott.
