What is the largest operating room in the United States?
The East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center has the largest operating room in the entire United States. The inpatient care facility is home to 120 inpatient cardiovascular beds, six operating rooms and 11 interventional laboratories.
The $160 million patient tower opened in January 2009. Its sister tower, East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU, is the education and outpatient care facility.
East Carolina Heart Institute provides cardiovascular research and is the largest employer in North Carolina. Their Cardiac Intensive Care Unit received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence for Spring 2009–2010.
