what is the difference between a kappa and a nupe

A nupe is someone that is trying to become a Kappa, while a Kappa is a full fledged member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

When one wishes to become a Kappa they may become a pledged member, and are referred to as nupes. A nupe must:

  • Successfully complete all the required rituals according to the D.O.P. manual of Kappa Alpha Psi

  • Know KAPPA LORE according to the blue and red books, and can be able to answer Lore challenges from other pledged members

  • Be an Achiever under pressure

NUPE is actually an acronym that stands for National Underground Pledging Elite; The Kappas began using it in the late 1980s after a moratorium was placed on pledging, outlawing it.
