What is in coleman brand camp fuel?

Coleman sells a vast selection of camping equipment. Among their products is a selection of camping stoves. Selecting the correct fuel for the stove will depend on a number of variables.

Coleman fuel is a liquid mixture of petroleum distillates including cyclohexane, nonane, octane, heptane, and pentane. It is a good choice for subzero temperatures and high altitude usage. Coleman fuel is also known as white gas or camping fuel and is usually sold in one gallon cans. Coleman also makes a filler spout for the can to reduce spills and drips.

Butane-propane mix has the advantage of being lightweight and easy to use. Its downside is that a flame is difficult to maintain, or even impossible to start, in colder climates. Also, the canister it comes in is not recyclable.

Powermax is a fuel designed by Coleman. It is a butane-propane mix with all the advantages that normally come with such a fuel, but they have engineered out the drawbacks. Powermax fuel works well even in cold weather and at high altitude.

Propane is reliable, readily available and cost-effective. It is however a relatively heavy gas and not practical for backpacking. It is a good choice for RV-ing or a similar situation where gear doesn’t have to be manually carried.
