What Is a nut a fruit or vegetable?
A nut by definition in botany is “a dry one-seeded, usually oily fruit”. The hazelnut, acorn, almond, hickory nut, walnut and chestnut are considered true nuts. “Nut” also refers to pine nuts, pistachios, cashews, Macadamia nuts, and Brazil nuts which are actually kernels or seeds. Peanuts are a vegetable and belong to the legumes plant family (edible seeds encased in pods), which include peas and beans.
