There are four Degrees of Knighthood within the Knights of Columbus. The initiation ceremonies into each, also referred to as Degrees are said to vary from chapter to chapter. The ceremonies remain secret only to members and are the only aspects of the organization that are not made known to non-members. Full Knighthood is bestowed upon those who have reached the Third Degree.
Only Catholic men over the age of 18 may join the Knights of Columbus. Today there are more than 1.8 million members and 15,000 councils worldwide. In 2010, Knights members performed over 70 million hours of volunteer service and donated more than $154 million directly to charity.
