“Verano” is the Spanish word for “summer” or “summertime.” The other seasons in Spanish are el invierno for winter, la primavera for spring and el otoño for autumn/fall.
The definite articles of either el or la are generally used when referring to the seasons in Spanish, even in situations where the article “the” would not be used in English. For example, if you were to say “I don’t like summers,” you would say “No me gustan los veranos.” In some parts of the tropics, only two seasons are recognized colloquially: la estación lluviosa (the wet season) and la estación seca (the dry season).
