What does SSL mean on your cell phone?

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, which is the geekspeak way of saying that the web page to which you have connected on your cell phone is encrypting the data sent back and forth between you and the web site. SSL is the technology that allows you to safely make credit card purchases, for instance, or visit your bank's web site without someone else being able to intercept the web traffic and steal your personal information.
