Comedian Ralphie May died after suffering cardiac arrest, following a brief battle with pneumonia, reports Variety. He passed away on October 6, 2017 at the age of 45.

In September, the comedian canceled a series of dates from his Unruly stand-up tour due to illness.

May's rep said in a statement posted on Facebook:

“We are heartbroken to announce the untimely death of our friend, Ralphie MaY. Ralphie had been battling pneumonia and had cancelled a handful of dates over the last month in an effort to recover. Earlier this morning at a private residence in Las Vegas his body was discovered.”

Ralphie May was born on February 1, 1972 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. He rose to fame after he finished in 2nd place in the first season of “Last Comic Standing” in 2003.

His career took off after that parlayed his Southern charm into stand-up dates across the country, as well as appearances on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “The Wayne Brady Show.”
