Mother’s Day in the US is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. That means that it will land on May 13, 2012 this year.
Mother’s Day is not an official Federal holiday, but in recent years it has become increasingly important to retail gift shops and restaurants.
Although attempts at arranging a Mother’s Day were made before her, Anna Jarvis is credited with creating the holiday in its current form in Grafton, West Virginia in 1908. However, it is said that before her death in 1948, she had regretted how the holiday had turned into a commercial holiday.
