In recent news, there has been an increase of prescription drug abuse among veterans. A study last year of more than 450,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans showed that 4.5 percent had a drug abuse disorder diagnosis, more than double the civilian rate. The same study showed that “funding for VA substance abuse treatment programs has declined relative to other healthcare services.”
