Zolpidem is a sedative, also called a hypnotic. It affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause sleep problems. Zolpidem is used to treat sleeping disorder such as insomnia.

As with all hypnotics, it is not recommended for long-term use and a course of treatment should not exceed four weeks. The drug is available in 5 mg and 10 mg strength tablets for oral administration.
