Is Superbad based on a true story that happened to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg?

Yes. The 2007 comedy Superbad is loosely based on the experiences of the writers when they were in high school. However, the entire movie is not based exactly on one true sequence of events that actually occurred. A lot of the events in the movie were either made up, embellished, or altered in the making of the movie.

Writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were childhood friends. They began working on the script for Superbad when they were only 13 years old. In interviews about the movie, Seth and Evan never stated that it's based on one truthful set of events, but rather just their general experiences as teenagers.

Goldberg stated, "We were kind of sick of the movies we'd been seeing - teen movies - so we went upstairs to my sister's bedroom and tried to do it up on her computer." Superbad was considered by many to be one of the best movies of 2007 and was emulated by many teen and young adult comedies for years afterwards.
