Yes they are the same; people often misspell Dachshund as Dotson, Datsun, Dachund, Dashund or Dawtson.
Dachshund is described as a low, long and powerfully muscled dog. In the US, it comes in two sizes - standard and miniature. There are three coat varieties for each size, the first one is the most popular in the US which is called smooth, the coat is short shining and smooth!
Longhair, this coat is a sleek, glistening and often slightly wavy giving the dog an elegant appearance. And lastly is Wirehair with the exception of jaw, eyebrows, and ears, the whole body is covered with a uniform short, tight, thick, rough, hard outer coat but with finer, somewhat softer, shorter hairs (undercoat) everywhere distributed between the coarser hairs.
All of Dachshund senses are well developed, they are clever, lively, and courageous to the point of recklessness. They are known to turn training sessions into a game, and they often make their owner feel as if the balance of power may have shifted without him knowing.
