In colonial times was the church of England considered catholic or puritan?
In colonial times the immigrants coming from England were fleeing the Catholic church. They were looking for religious freedom, and with that came a hatred for the Church. These protestant groups excluded the Catholics and their beliefs. However, the state of Maryland was formed as a place for Catholics to gather and worship.
