How rare is a 4 leaf clover

A true four leaf clover comes from the trifolium repens more commonly known as the White Clover. There are other clover plants that may produce a four leaf clover, but the odds of finding a four leafed version of this true clover is estimated to be 10,000 to 1. A true four leaf clover is an oddity among normally three leaf clovers and the fourth leaf is generally smaller than the others. The White Clover is identified as the official Shamrock (three leaf clover) of Ireland at least as early as the 1800s.
