How much stronger is hydromorphone to hydrocodone

Not medical advice: Except in very rare cases hydromorphone causes stronger analgesic effects than hydrocodone. An exact conversion rate cannot be drawn between the two for various reasons. They are both used in the treatment of moderate to severe pain.

Hydromorphone is administered by itself, whereas hydrocodone is always used in combination with another drug, usually a weaker pain-killer like acetaminophen. Also, although both are synthetic or semi-synthetic opioids, they are derivatives of different opiates—morphine and codeine. Metabolism and tolerance levels will vary from patient to patient.

Hydromorphone very often carries the brand name Dilaudid.
Hydrocodone carries brand names like Vicodin and Lortab.

On July 13, 2012 Sage Stallone, son of movie star Sylvester Stallone was found dead at the age of 36. Sage’s body was reportedly found in the same room as dozens of empty hydrocodone bottles.
