How much does a 30lb bottle of R-22 refrigerant cost?

$538 or so will get you a 30lb cylinder of R22 refrigerant. The shipping weight of such a cylinder is roughly 37lb.

Due to their environmental harm, CFC-12 (Freon), HCFC R22 and R502 are no longer acceptable as refrigerants. Although R22 is still available from some retailers, it is being phased out and will soon no longer be sold anywhere.

There are plenty of available replacements that carry a much smaller environmental burden. One such example is Super-Freeze, which not only replaces outdated refrigerants, but is often more efficient. It is used/applied the same as previous refrigerants, so there is no new technique to learn or new tools to acquire.

R22 is scheduled to be completely replaced by 2020. With this deadline in mind, the cost of R22 is increasing steadily. Some sources are asking up to $3,000 for 30lbs.
