To become an Occupational Therapist you will need a master's degree in occupational therapy. To enter the occupational therapy master's program candidates must have a bachelor's degree that includes coursework in biology and physiology. Programs may also require the applicant to have worked or volunteered in an occupational therapy setting.
A typical bachelor's degree takes 4 years to complete and a master's degree would take an additional 2 years. The master's degree also requires the student to complete several month's of fieldwork. Some institutions offer a combined 4+1 bachelor/master's degree which would encompass 5 years.
Occupational therapists are required to be licensed, which requires a degree from an accredited university and passing the NBCOT certification exam.
