How many out counts retires an inning
An inning is the part of baseball in which the teams switch between offense and defense, each team's time at bat (offense) is half of an inning.
In Major League Baseball (MLB), for innings 1 through 8, there are 6 outs to retire an inning (3 for each side).
For the 9th inning, there can be either 3, 4, 5 or 6 outs to retire the inning, depending on the score, as the home team no longer bats once they lead the game in the 9th inning.
