How can i get old w2 forms for the irs?
The IRS generally suggests that you contact the payer (the employer) for copies of W-2s. However, if you are unable to obtain a duplicate W-2 from an employer or former employer, you can request a transcript of data for your Form W-2 information by completing Form 4506-T or requesting the transcript online here. Additionally, you can contact the IRS at 1-800-908-9946. This transcript will not include information related to state taxes.
The IRS maintains the database of transcripts for 10 years, but the current year’s data is not available until the following year. For example, during calendar year 2012 when 2011 taxes are filed, 2011 W-2 transcripts under this form would not be available yet. If you are missing a current year W-2, you can contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 for assistance.
