FWD: What nba player changed his name to metta world peace

Ron Artest legally changed his name to Metta World Peace on September 16, 2011. He said, “Changing my name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world.” The word metta is a Buddhist word meaning loving, kindness and friendliness towards all.

He did not live up to the new name on April 22, 2012 when he elbowed Oklahoma City’s James Harden, drawing a seven-game suspension. He has a history of violent behavior in his career, including his role in the infamous 2004 brawl in Detroit, in which then-Artest punched a fan.
