Do you have to be 17 or 18 to see rated R movies in Illinois?

According to the MPAA rating system, current from 1990 to today, to see an R-Rated film you must be at least 17 years of age, or be accompanied by an adult if you are under 17. The NC-17 rating means that no one under 17 years of age is allowed to view the film, even if they are accompanied by an adult.
