Do brown recluse spiders live in new england.

Although brown recluse spiders are not native to New England, due to shipping and other travel, spiders have been transported outside their native environment. Scientists at UC Riverside say that although it is possible, it is highly unlikely that a person would find a brown recluse outside of the native area.

The brown recluse spider is typically found in the mid-southern part of the United States, covering parts of Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Other species from the genus Loxosceles can also be found in the desert areas of California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.

90% of brown recluse spider bites require no medical attention and heal on their own and sometimes staph infections are improperly diagnosed as spider bites. Recently, a student from Texas was bitten by a brown recluse spider on her neck. She developed necrosis in her ear and the infection nearly caused her to go blind.
