Do black bears in north east pennsylvania eat meat or vegetables?
The black bear in the United States in an omnivore, which means it eats both meat and plants. However, 80-90% of the its Spring diet is herbs and grasses. In the Summer and Autumn the bear will eat ripe berries, nuts, and acorns. When they do eat meat it is usually deer and smaller animals who did not survive the winter. In the northeast the black bear will prey on yearlings or sick deer as well as insects.
