Albert Pujols is a baseball player who in late 2011 signed a 10-year, $254 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Before signing the contract in early December 2011, Pujols had played all 11 previous seasons of his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals. With the Cardinals, he was twice a World Series champion, won three National League MVP awards and won the Rookie of the Year award in 2001. The first baseman was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and lived in that country until the age of 16, when his family immigrated to Independence, Missouri. He was selected by the Cardinals in the 1999 MLB Draft, and played just one season of minor league baseball before winning the starting first baseman job with the Cardinals in 2001.
