Are Lance Armstrong and Neil Armstrong related?

It has not been reported if Navy fighter pilot and astronaut Neil Armstrong and retired racing cyclist Lance Armstrong are related, but it is clear that they are not father and son. Neil's children are Mark, Karen, and Alan.

The last name Armstrong is of Scottish origin. Legend has it that in the Middle Ages an armor bearer to the King of Scotland lifted the King onto his horse using one arm after his horse was killed in battle. The King is then said to have given the man the name Armstrong and granted him lands in Liddesdale.

Lance Armstrong is back in the news again. The UCI just formally stripped him of his seven Tour de France titles and ordered him to return approximately $3.8 million in prize money. Armstrong also stepped down as chairman of the non-profit cancer organization Livestrong.
